Backstory
-
Naido, the “Pink’n’Purple” pilot, was famous for conducting extravagant journeys that reached distant lands. During this period of history, not much was known about the world, so explorers would search as far-and-wide as possible to learn more about the richness of the planet. Naido was one of these explorers. It was only when the War broke out that things drastically changed. Considering Naido’s extreme navigation and piloting skills, the government quickly recruited Naido for the “Surveillance and Espionage Division”. They were excited to have such a proficient pilot in their grasp, but Naido hated it, refusing to cooperate in a war that would endanger thousands of lives. Therefore, one night, Naido snuck out, took one of the few planes kept in storage by the government, and flew to a deserted island that no one else knew about.
Or, at least, Naido thought nobody else knew about it. Coincidentally, around this time, Dr. Namba, the triceratops, had disembarked from a boat, stepping onto the shore of the very same island. Dr. Namba was a prolific explorer and historian whose greatest discovery was the walking (and working) skeleton, No’Ka, who served as the doctor’s assistant. No’Ka had been discovered atop a tall mountain, frozen in a block of ice. Once the ice melted, No’Ka emerged healthy and happy, but with only a brain and heart intact. Unable to understand the phenomenon at all, Dr. Namba searched for scientists and doctors all over the world who might be of assistance. No one could explain the strange occurrence.
Dr. Namba was not only determined to find the meaning of No’Ka, but also the meaning of the doctor’s own existence. Being the last dinosaur on this planet, it was only through constant determination and dedication that Dr. Namba could hope to find any knowledge as to the dinosaurs’ disappearance. In solidarity, No’Ka agreed to help as much as possible.
It was only a coincidence that these two had now arrived at the same island as Naido.
The doctor and No’ka had searched the island for the entire day, hoping to find even the smallest clue to assist their progress. It was only when the sun began to set that they decided to take a break, having dinner on a soft patch of grass that overlooked the ocean nearby. As they sat on the grass, No’Ka noticed something quite peculiar with Dr. Namba: the doctor’s glasses were shimmering. Normally, this wouldn’t mean anything special, since the sun would often reflect against them, but seeing as they were sitting in shadow and the sun was sinking rapidly, this could only mean one thing: the reflection must have been coming from directly above them.
Looking up, No’Ka was shocked: there, dangling precariously from a tree, was an aeroplane! Vines twisted around its body, keeping it stable, but they were thin and wiry, looking like they might break at any moment.
"Dr Namba," exclaimed No’Ka pointing upwards, "look, right above us!"
Dr. Namba followed No’Ka’s finger to see the plane dangling above them. Jumping up quickly out of fright, it was only when Dr. Namba looked carefully that the form of a small, round body became visible in the plane. It looked like a tiny, pink hedgehog.
"No’Ka, look, there’s an animal there," said Dr. Namba.
No’ka looked more carefully and also saw the little pink hedgehog. All of sudden, No’Ka shot up a nearby tree, climbing it almost instantaneously (it helped that No’Ka was mostly bones and weighed next to nothing). No’Ka carefully carried the pink hedgehog down to the ground, the poor creature unconscious and sweating profusely.
Suddenly, the vines beneath the plane snapped with a deafening CRACK! Birds flew up into the sky, shocked by the thunderous boom of the plane as it struck the ground. Luckily, Dr. Namba, No’Ka, and the unconscious little hedgehog were no longer under the plane, but they still felt the vibrations as it shook the soil. Needless to say, they were thankful for their good fortune.
It was probably because of the noise of the plane that, a moment later, the small hedgehog awoke (it was honestly impressive that the hedgehog was only just waking up now).
"Hello?" Naido said drowsily, "who are you?"
Naido was looking directly at Dr. Namba.
"I am Dr. Namba. An archaeologist. This is my assistant No’Ka," Dr. Namba gestured towards the No’Ka, who smiled and waved at Naido, "We found you unconscious in this plane. No’Ka carried you out."
Naido looked sad, and didn’t respond to the comment.
Dr. Namba continued, trying to make the little hedgehog feel better.
"Are you alright, what were you doing up there?" said Dr. Namba.
"My plane ran out of fuel and crashed," responded Naido.
Since Naido was finally responding, the doctor continued.
“But…how did you manage to get a plane?"
"I...I was put in the War. But...I didn't want to go. I don’t want to go. I don’t want to hurt people, I just want to explore, see the world, and discover new things," poor Naido said, starting to cry softly. “Please, don’t tell anyone".
Dr. Namba was touched by Naido’s sincerity.
"What is your name?" the doctor said.
"Naido…”
"Don't worry, Naido, I understand," said Dr. Namba, smiling. "You said you were an explorer, didn’t you? I have a fine idea, then. Why don't you join our team? We could use someone like you to help us with our further studies."
"With you?"
"Yes, you see, I have an assistant already, but I would love to have someone with your knowledge. We could travel the world and learn as much as possible. You must’ve been to far more places than I could have been to. Your knowledge and experience would be invaluable. Not only that, but once we get your plane fixed up, you could fly as much as you wanted and help us out from above," said Dr. Namba gracefully.
Naido looked at the doctor thoughtfully. Never had such respect and admiration pervaded Naido’s soul. It was a dream come true.
"Yes, I absolutely love the sound of that," said Naido, already excited for where the future may lead.
From that point on, Naido, Dr. Namba, and No’Ka explored the world, learning and laughing on their journey for answers.
